Who, how, and what, makes performance alive?
Radio Nopal hosts “PERFORMANCE” during February 2024.
This month-long event at Radio Nopal consists of a series of hybrid format multidisciplinary encounters curated by Alejandro Chellet with the intention to gather a selection of people whose very substantive practices oscillate from the core, the inbetweens and the edges of Performance Art today.
By offering the public and participants of this program an opportunity to create a container of intimacy and comradery amongst individuals, collectives and representatives of organizations who are keeping performance alive. Chellet´s curation calls for reflection upon conflict, struggle and dreams to become the architecture in our collective visions for the framing and production of performance art.
“PERFORMANCE” is supported and made possible by people from all around the world in different stages of their careers, who are crafting their own artworks, producing and showcasing other artists' work, organizing and curating festivals and shows, as well as developing educational programs and research.

Performance beyond ART=LIFE?Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Poncili Creación.
Samantha Ozer, Asia Stewart, Yael Salomonowitz. Moderator: Alejandro Chellet Are we able to identify patterns in how Performance is conceived and formatted within the parameters of the art market to digital screening platforms? What is it with presenting, promoting, producing and workshopping performance today ? What are the motivations behind the want to create a forum, the framework, a groundbase, the foundations or even a school of performance? These are some of the questions to be addressed simply or performatively by our guests who will be intimately present holding space for these sensitive topics in relation to our most endeared ART=LIFE practice. |

Performance, sound and ritual as contemporary creation.Rogelio Sosa, Sally Montes,Daniela Huerta,
Natalia Escobar. Moderator: Alejandro Chellet "Deslenguadas" (Performance) which takes part during "Desde el Sonido que Atraviesa" (Curatorship) are two current projects led by Latin American artists and curators with international backgrounds, embracing sound experimentation in performance. They create spaces that amplify sensory and emotional experiences in contemporary art, aiming to reinvent hybrid narratives and explore different ways of being and existing in the world. This establishes a dialogue between past, present, and future. For our meeting at Radio Nopal, we will gather with the creators to learn about their projects and understand the horizons they encompass within the world of Performance Art. How do Latinx creators' identities are expressed, represented by our work as curator and artist residing in the global north when returning and presenting work in the Mexican or Latin American context? What happens when working in performance with mythological feminine archetypes, seeking to release repressed aspects of the psyche that, in turn, reinforce patriarchal control? How can we, through the format of sound performance, work on pieces about the causes of our disconnection between humanity and nature? |

When Fragility meets The Epicenter Revolutions.Holly Timpener, Federico Tello, Lechedevirgen,
Lum Alvarez, Aquarius Funkk, Dámian Suárez, Marco Guagnelli, Ále Campos, Mao. Moderator: Alejandro Chellet This event brings two groups of artists presenting their current curatorial projects in the frame of unique curations programmed during Art Week Mexico City 2024. Fragile at SS Galerie is a mosaic of visions and resistances that are critical and subversive against political and social injustices. It focuses on the quality or state of being delicate, easily breakable, or vulnerable within Performances. Epicenter Revolutions explores internal transformations in performance art, featuring all transgender and/or non-binary artists. They delve into how these internal changes manifest in durational actions, supporting transgender and non-binary identity while serving as political resistance. |

WE MAKE PERFORMANCE THRIVEMarta Jovanovic, Natacha Voliakosky,
Marina Barsy Janer, Hector Canonge. We have invited this group of artists, academics and curators to reflect on the collectivity that exists within the world of Performance. What are the paths to sustain this practice alive? Why do we challenge our own bodies, ideologies, beliefs while making living art about societal issues, politics, economics to many more issues?? |
